How to Calculate Conversions For SEO

Category: By Mikrotik-Master

SEO, also known as Search Engine Optimization is the process of getting your website to rank well on the natural listings of search engines such as Google and Yahoo. As the industry becomes more educated on the topic of SEO, many companies are now engaging in the optimization process so as to get high rankings for their websites.

However, SEO is not always about ranking and position. You need to look at traffic and conversion too. When your site is being optimized, you need to track the amount of organic search engine traffic that comes to your website. For most web statistics tracking software, you will be able to know the exact keywords that searchers type to find your website. Tracking of organic traffic is very important as you can analyze the information and fine tune your optimization process.

Now that you know the amount of organic traffic that you are getting, it is time for you to calculate conversion rate. Before you can calculate conversion, you need to determine the goal of your website. In other words, what you wish to achieve from your website? Is your website an e-commerce store that generates direct online sales? Or are you intending to use your website to generate leads for your services or products, and close the deals offline? After you have determined the goal of your website, we will have a KPI or Key Performance Indicator to work on.

If you run an e-commerce site, your conversion calculation will be pretty straight-forward. You need to have a web statistic tracking software to track the path that visitors take when they reach your site. Then, use the number of sales resulted from organic traffic and divides it by the total organic traffic to your website. Then multiply it by 100. This will be your conversion rate for SEO.

If your business deals with offline sales and services, what you can do is to place an unique phone number on your website that is not use elsewhere. So whenever there is any enquiry to this phone number, you will know that it comes from your online marketing effort. Then, instruct your phone operator to always ask anyone who calls in on how he or she finds your website. When tracking conversion for offline sales and services, it is near impossible to get a 100% accurate number. But at least, you will have some numbers to work on.

Any marketing effort needs to be measured in order to produce good result. I know that it is very tedious to measure some of the online marketing campaign like SEO. You can choose to just look at keyword rankings and positions. But if you do not know the actual conversion rate and numbers from your SEO effort, you will never know how well your website fares in the optimization war.

SEO For Budding Webmasters

Category: By Mikrotik-Master

Creating and setting up a Web site on the Internet for personal or business use is quite easy. Considering that there are tons of tools and programs around to help you design and publish a site that requires no hard-coding or programming experience, you can easily create one for your own function in the shortest possible time.

The problem of budding Webmasters today is to come up with an online page that is accessible to the online public. Let's face it, a site that Web surfers don't know about is quite useless. SEO, or search engine optimization, offers tons of different strategies that will help these individuals boost their site's accessibility on the Web. But if it's your first time doing it, then you might find it hard to even try the simplest of methods in SEO.

However, it is quite possible to apply some of the Internet marketing strategies that follow SEO concepts without wracking your brains to make it work for you or to spend hours and hours implementing the changes. Here are some of them.

Keywords

Improving your accessibility through the use of search engines is the gist of SEO. To achieve this, you need to keep in mind that these lookup tools require the use of keywords from Web surfers to run a successful scan on the Web, so you need to place keywords on your site that fits perfectly with your online content.

For starters, you need to come up with a variety of keywords that people on the Net might use to look for information that is found on your site. Integrate these keywords onto your site title, description, site address (domain name or URL), and into the content of your online page to increase its search engine coverage. Avoid spamming keywords if you don't want to get your site banned from search engine listings.

Page Rank

Page rank is another fact that will improve your placement in search engine results. Your page rank value will be determined by the number of links on the Web that points back to your site. To get this done, you might want to contact Webmasters of other Web sites to place your link in their site and vice versa.

Other methods are also available to increase your page rank, such as:

Social bookmarking

• Social networking

• Publishing articles on the Web with embedded links on the content

• Advertising your links on forums (place links your signature instead of posting it directly on topics)

• Submission of your link to Web directories on the Internet.

Landing on the Top 1000 Search Engine Rankings

Category: , , By Mikrotik-Master

Search engine optimization is a very complex thing to internet marketers. It is the human anatomy of online business wherein all SEO components should work hand in hand just like the human body does. As an internet marketer myself, my initial goal is for my websites to land on the top 1000 search engine rankings and then work to improve from there.

In order to do that, I have learned from internet gurus that quality back links can improve search engine rankings. Let us define what back links are. They are incoming links to a website or web page. In the search engine optimization (SEO) world, the number of back links is one indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page. There are two kinds namely a) one way - free back links, no link back required and b) reciprocal - links pointing to your site while you link back. Where can you get them?

1. Link Farms - This is the most common way to get links to your website but search engine nowadays are frowning on it. A link farm is a Web page that is nothing more than a page of links to other sites.
2. Link Exchanges - A lot better than the first one because reciprocal links are established between two relevant websites. This is one way to get free permanent back links to your site. There are also paid options.
3. Natural - This is the best way, the only drawback is it takes time before you can see results.

How Does It Work?
To land on the top 1000 search engine rankings, one has to write an original article. The content should be relevant to the topic being discussed. It should be brief and concise, easy to understand and comprehend, and should contain the proper keywords. The article should be proofread for punctuation, spelling and grammatical errors. The last thing you would want to happen is disappoint your readers with simple mistakes on your article.

Next step is to submit your article to article submission sites with a high PR (page rank). And don't forget article directories and social book marking sites. These sites offer free back links no link back required. For better results you can choose to submit only to sites with a PR 3 or higher. After submission, all you have to do is wait for at least one week.

You will surely notice the difference. Your submitted article will be made available for redistribution to other sites and when publishers pick it up, your back links will surely increase and it will continue to rise as your website matures and ages. The beauty of this is what you get are all free permanent back links to your site. More back links means more visitors and finally more money for you.

Getting quality links is only one aspect of the ever changing SEO techniques and strategies. There are several of them but one has to start from the basics. I have used it before and I am still using it today. Quality back links can help you land on the top 1000 search engine rankings.

The Importance of Search Engine Optimization

Category: , , By Mikrotik-Master

Is Search Engine Marketing cost effective enough to increase profits for B2B marketers? As you know, B2B transactions differ from most consumer transactions because these decisions require coordination between a number of different personnel before the final transaction is made. Therefore, the process requires a period of time between researching the product and placing the order. It’s an ongoing rather than snap decision.

“The Role of Search in Business to Business Buying Decisions” is a well-designed study of approximately 1500 participants responding to a 40-question survey that was validated with pre-testing before implementation. You can download the entire report for free, and here are a few highlights:

• When participants were asked to indicate how they would go about making a B2B purchase, 93.2 percent said they would research the purchase online.

• When asked if they would use a search engine at some point in this task, 95.5 percent of participants indicated that they would.

• When asked where they would start their search for information, 63.9 percent of participants chose a search engine over consumer review sites, e-commerce sites, manufacturer’s sites, and industry portals.

• When taking budget into consideration, manufacturer’s sites and industry portals were the chosen starting place as budgets increased. However, 86.9 percent of participants said they would visit a search engine after visiting those sites.

The study is rich with too many details to cover in this article, but following are some important conclusions:

• Search engines play a dominant role in B2B purchases.

• Search engines are used in the early or mid research phase in the buying cycle.

• Google is favored over other search engines.

• Search engine research takes place at least one to two months before the buying decision.

• Good balance between organic and paid search is necessary. Organic SEO gets over 70 percent of the clicks.

• Position is a factor, with over 60 percent clicking on the top 3 listings.

• Most users decide which listing to click on in seconds upon scanning the page.

With all this qualified traffic originating from search engines, it is more important than ever for B2B marketers, wholesalers, and B2B exchanges to ensure their Web sites are correctly optimised for good positioning in search results. There is also great value in SEO/SEM as a user-friendly marketing tool.
The Uniqueness of Search Engine Marketing

Search engine traffic is highly targeted. That's because potential buyers who find your B2B offerings through search engines are looking for your products and services on their own, so they are predisposed to hear your marketing message. You can’t find a more qualified prospect than that. Here’s what distinguishes search engine marketing from other types of advertising:

1. Non-Intrusive: Search marketing is a non-intrusive marketing tool. Most advertising, both online and offline, interrupts consumer behavior. If a user goes to a web site for info, up pops an intrusive ad. Reading a newspaper? Ads dominate and force articles to be continued on another page. With search engine marketing, the user is actively seeking your products, services, and information. They are delighted to be driven to your site.

2. Voluntary: Search marketing is the result of user-originated behavior. Your visitors from search engines and directories have voluntarily clicked on your listing rather than any competitors, thus they are motivated to explore your offerings.

Ten Tips for Help You Get High Search Engine Ranking

Category: , , By Mikrotik-Master

The following is a list of 10 basic tips to help you improve your website's searching engine ranking in Google, Yahoo, MSN,etc:

1. You Must Find the best keywords For Your site.

Keywords are the words that describe your service or product. More importantly, keywords are the words your clients or customers will enter into search tools such as Yahoo or Google to find your services or products. Build a list of 30-60 keywords for your website.

  • One way to find good keywords is to try to think like your customers. What words would they use to find your service or product?
  • Another way is to look at your competitor's sites and see what keywords they use.
  • There are also a couple of useful tools to help you find keywords. One is wordtracker.com. Wordtracker is a paid service that can help you easily find the most popular keywords and also to see how competitive those keywords are.
  • Another keyword analysis tool, Overture, is free but not as powerful.

2. Add Relevant Keywords to the Keyword Meta Tag on Each Page Meta tags provide information about a webpage and they help search engines to correctly categorize your pages. Meta tags are inserted into the html code on your web pages and are not invisible to the user. Use 10 to 12 keywords.

3. Add keywords to your webpage title tags. Each web page on your site should have a keyword rich title tag of about 40 to 60 characters, including spaces. Search engines use the title tag to rank your page and they often include the title tag text in the search results. For example, if you are a painter in the Denver Boulder Colorado area, you might use the following title: Boulder Denver Colorado Interior Exterior House Painter.

4. Add Keywords to your web pages Add relevant keywords to the text of every page on your site. It's especially helpful to have keywords in headers, lists, the first paragraph, and in bold or italic font.

5. Add New Content to Your Website Search Engines read text content, and the more good text content you have on your site, the better. Plan on adding new content to your website each week. Make sure the content is relevant to your site and helpful to your users. For example, if you are a house painter in Boulder or Denver Colorado, you can write an article about how to power wash your house. Or give tips on painting. Users love 10-Ten lists. And remember to include your relevant keywords in the content.

6. Get Relevant Websites to Link to Your Site. In addition to text content, search engines use links to determine a site's relevance to a user's search. Lots of relevant links from other popular web sites tell the search engine that your site is important and relevant to the search. Ask your suppliers, vendors, and clients to link to your site. Try to find relevant blogs or information sites and get them to link to your site. Don't forget your friends and work colleagues. And make sure the incoming links are keyword rich. For example, instead of Click Here for a good house painter, use Denver Boulder House Painter, Interior, Exterior, Repair. Search Engines see links as important indicators of a site's relevance to a search, but Click Here doesn't give the search engine any indication of what the link means. And don't forget to link OUT to websites that contain useful information that is relevant to your site.

7. Add Keyword Rich Links to your web pages If your site contains a lot of useful information, try to link to it from other pages in your site and use keyword rich links. For example, the Denver Boulder Colorado painter might have a list of services they offer. First, create a page with details about each service and then create a descriptive, keyword rich link to each page.

8. Create a Site Map. Create a site map that list all the pages on your site. The site map makes it easier for search engines and your users to find the information on your site. Include a link to your site map in your main navigation so it's easy for users to find it from any page.

9. Eliminate Javascript Links, Javascript Navigation, Flash, and Flash Navigation Search Engines do not read Javascript or Flash. As a result, if your website navigation is dependent on javascript or flash, you should replace it with text-based navigation or supplement it with additional text-based navigation links.

10. Submit Your Website to Google, Yahoo, MSN, and dmoz Open Directory Project. Although there are hundreds of search engines, submitting your site to the big four is mandatory. Many of the smaller search engines get their data from one of the big four.

  • Google Site Submission
  • Yahoo Site Submission
  • If you submit to Yahoo, you will be submitted to MSN; MSN uses Yahoo data
  • dmoz.org Site Submission

How Does Google Search Query Work? Google's Secret Revealed

    Category: , By Mikrotik-Master

You must be thinking at times, how Google is able to give out the correct or the required result in such a short span of time? I myself use to ponder over it for a long time.

Let me explain you the process behind the search result delivered in Google.

The life span of a Google search query normally lasts less than half a second, yet involves a number of different steps that must be completed, before results can be delivered to a person seeking information.

    How Google spider crawls:

In Google, the web crawling (downloading of web pages) is done by several distributed crawlers ( called Googlebot). There is a URL server that sends lists of URL's to be fetched to these crawlers. The web pages that are fetched by the Googlebot are then sent to the store server. The store server then compresses and stores the web pages into a repository (a kind of storage facility). Every web page has an associated ID number called a doc ID that is assigned whenever a new URL is parsed (analyzed) out of a web page.

The indexing function is performed by the indexer and the sorter. The indexer performs a number of functions. It reads the repository, uncompress the documents, and parses (analyzes) them. Each document is then converted into a set of word occurrences called hits. The hits record the word, position in the document, an approximation of font size and capitalization.

The indexer distributes these hits into a set of "barrels", creating a partially sorted forward index. The indexer performs another important function. It parses (analyzes) out all the links in every web page and stores all the important information about them in an anchor file. This file contains enough information to determine where each link points from and to, and the text of the link.

The URL resolver reads the anchor file and converts relative URL's into absolute URL's and in turn into doc ID's. It puts the anchor text into the forward index, associated with the doc ID that the
anchor points to. It also generates a database of links that are pairs of doc ID's.

The links database is used to compute page ranks for all the documents. The pages that get into the barrel first will be most likely to be included in the search results. The question is, how does Google decide which pages go into the barrel first? The answer (as some of you probably would have already guessed) is based on the fact that the doc ID is an integer.

    Unique SEO Tips & Tricks

    Category: , , By Mikrotik-Master

I'd like to start out this article by telling you that I have experience in Search Engine ranking technologies dating back to before Google was even a day dream. If you are looking for true Search Engine Optimization experts, look to those who dealt in the early days with Yahoo before they charged $199 to get your site listed in their directory, Altavista (Pre-Babelfish) and MetaCrawler to name a few. I will start in order of what I believe is most important in Search Engine Optimization.

    1. TITLE Tags. Imagine yourself in the library, what's a library right? Well we've all sat at those old school Pentium II or Pentium III computers searching the directory by typing in keywords related to the subject of the book you are looking for. Once you got your results, you jotted them down on those tiny pieces of paper smaller than a Post It note with a little pencil you could barely get a grip and off you went searching for the title that seemed most relevant to what you were looking for. TITLE tags, the information between the TITLE tags on a website are just as important as the title of the book you were searching for at the library back in the 80's. The TITLE tag best describes what each page's content is about and helps the search engine spider to index that page correctly. Whatever is in your TITLE tag should match the content of what is on the actual page itself.

    2. META Tags. A lot of search engines these days don't use META tags anymore, but they can still be helpful. Especially the robots.txt file which you will need to create a tag for to let the spider know where on your server it is created. This should be in your server's root or home directory.

    3. H1,H2, H3 Tags. Every HTML page should feature at least a H1 tag which should be used to highlight the subject of that page. For example, if my Title Tag was "Cleveland Website Design Service" an appropriate H1 tag for the subject or heading of that page would be "Website Design Services." The geographical reference is just an example, this works just the same for any other subject. H1 Tags appear before H2, H3, H4, up to H5. This gives a hierarchy of the page for the search engine spiders to index your page more efficiently.

    4. Reciprocal Links. I know, I know you have heard this a hundred times that you should take time and put forth effort in establishing reciprocal links between your site and other websites that are based on the same subject as yours and you are still asking yourself, "If I own a website development company, why would I go trade links with my competition??" The answer: You don't. When I say it's important to establish reciprocal links with other relevant sites, it doesn't mean that you should approach your competition to trade links. It means find other sites that talk about the types of products or services your site sells. I've personally noticed and factually know that Google takes links pointing to your site as a high importance maybe even more important than META Tags. This is because it is easy to flood a website with keywords to boost your rankings, but it is considerably more difficult to establish your website as a reliable source of information. You trade links with other websites because Google will begin to recognize your website as a reliable source, thus pushing your listing to the top. Don't expect this to happen overnight. If you are serious about making money, generating leads or closing sales from your website then expect to put forth effort in establishing reciprocal links. Go ahead, do yourself a favor.

    5. Keyword Density. Keyword density refers to the denseness of keywords in the text copy on each of your web pages. I have noticed many business website owners talking about how long they have been in business, how many clients or projects they have developed and how important they are, but they are missing one key thing. KEYWORDS! It's Ok to have copy that is dense with keywords that borderline doesn't make sense to everyone. Not everyone is going to come to your website and read every single word on the page. After all, how do you browse the net? I know that when I browse I look for something that catches my attention, maybe a product I'm looking for, a phone number or address or maybe a contact form. If I'm at a particular website that I searched for I already know what I'm looking for and probably don't need to read their introduction paragraphs, which is a great place for keywords because search engines will give more importance to keywords that are placed higher on a page.

    6. Sitemaps. Sitemaps have become important in the past few years because it tells search engines about all of the pages on your site. This will help the search engine spider thoroughly index all of the pages on your site. If you do not want certain pages to be indexed, but still wish to display that page in your Sitemap you may exclude the page in your robots.txt file. I very rarely use a website's sitemap unless I feel I have searched every square inch of the site and have no other place to look for information. In my experiences, I have noticed that older men tend to use sitemaps more.

    7. Age of a website. I read an article recently about how Google puts importance on the age of your website. The age is not calculated by how old your domain name is, rather how long ago the information on that particular domain was published. It is a good idea to publish your content in a timely manner, but even more so important to keep that content fresh and up to date. I can't stand when I visit a website, read some information then realize that it was published 4 years ago and is completely out of date.

This list goes on and on this certainly isn't all of the Search Engine Optimization tricks out there, but I feel this is the most important items that have personally helped out my rankings. I hope this information helps give your Search Engine Optimization a head start so you can one up your competitors. Don't forget that it's Ok to get into a particular niche and that you don't have to target the broadest keywords. Considering the size of the internet today and what it was 10 years ago, you will have plenty of visitors coming in from even more refined and longer keywords.

    The Importance Of Inbound Links

    Category: By Mikrotik-Master

The perfect and quality inbound links are important to achieve high rankings on search engines. Inbound links are the most important factors for top rankings on major search engines. Its quite difficult for a website with less inbound links, to achieve top rankings for a highly competitive search term. Getting the right kind of quality inbound links is very important for a particular website. Its easy to get better rankings with 25-30 good inbound links than with 100 bad incoming links.

Some important factors that can make any link a good incoming link -

    1. The inbound link should use any relevant keyword in the anchor text - if you wish to get high rankings for a particular search term then the links to your website should use the same search term. The anchor text used to link to your site influences the keywords or keyphrases for which the website will get high rankings.

    2. The inbound link should come from a relevant website or a page - inbound links from relevant webpages are more useful than any other links from the unrelevant web pages. Although links from unrelated pages will not hurt the rankings of your website but search engines gives priority to the links coming from the most relevant websites.

    3. The inbound link should direct to a relevant page on your site - to get links to your home page is better than to get links to the page that is most relevant to the chosen anchor text. If you are using a particular link text then the link should direct to a page relevant to the text. If the link text matches the content of the linked pages then it's more likely that your web page is really relevant to that term and you'll get high rankings for that search term.

    4. Link from an authority site is also useful - Links from pages with high authority will increase the TrustRank of your website. Links from websites with high PageRank have a positive effect on the rankings of your own site.

    5. There should not be a nofollow attribute in the inbound link - The nofollow attribute is used to tell the search engines not to follow a link. Links with the nofollow attribute can't help in achieving high search engine rankings. Check the HTML code of their link exchange partners to find out if they are using nofollow attribute to link to the website.

If the link building for the website is done on the basis of some simple factors, the website will definitely get the top rankings on major search engines.

    TOP SEO MISTAKES

    Category: By Mikrotik-Master

    1. No Targetted Keywords or Targetting the wrong keywords

Many SEOs do this bluder by selecting not so useful, non-relevant or even wrong keywords and key phrases for optimizing the website pages. They might choose keywords according to their mind that are descriptive of the website but the normal users may not search those terms. Choosing the right keywords can bring success or failure to your SEO campaign. Irrespective of your resources, you can't think on your own of all the useful keywords but a good keyword
suggestion tool will definitely help you find keywords that are useful for your website. Also region specific keywords play important role in bringing quality visitors to the website.

    2. Ignoring the Title tag
Leaving the title tag empty or not using it properly is also a big mistake. Title tag is one of the most important place to have useful and relevant keywords of your website, it help you in optimization and the text in your title tag shows in the SERPs (search engine result pages) as your page title.

    3. Concentrating only on Meta Tags
Many professionals think SEO is only about putting keywords in your meta description & keywords tags. They must know that meta tags does not have enough weightage on search engines. They can create meta description and keywords tag with useful keywords but should not expect much to rank well only because of these meta tags.

    4. A Flash Website without a HTML Alternative
Flash might be attractive but not to search engines and users. If you really insist that your site is Flash-based and you want search engines to love it, provide an html version. Here are some more tips for optimizing Flash sites. Search engines don't like Flash sites for a reason – a spider can't read Flash content and therefore can't index it.

    5. JavaScript Menus
Using JavaScript for navigation within the website is not bad as long as you understand that search engine spiders can't read JavaScript and build your web pages accordingly. Hence if you have JavaScript menus you can't do without, you should create simple HTML and XML sitemap putting all the page links, so that all your pages will be crawlable to the search engine spiders.

    6. Using only Images for Headings
Many programmers use images in place of text due to the thinking that an image looks better than simple text for headings and menus. Although images can make your website look more attractive & distinctive but in SEO terms images for headings and menus are a big mistake because H1, H2 header tags and menu links are important SEO items. If you don't want to have your text within H1, H2 header tags due to their visibility, you can modify them through a stylesheet.

    7. Ignoring Keyword Rich URLs
Many SEOs underestimate the importance of a good URL. Dynamic page names are still very frequent in use and no keywords in the URL is more a rule than an exception. Although it is possible to rank high even without keywords in URL but all being equal, if you have keywords in the URL of the domain and file names (inner pages, images, etc), result in an additional advantage over your competitors. Keywords in URLs are more important for MSN & Yahoo! but Google also give weightage to them, hence it is very useful to use keywords in URLs.

    8. Backlink Spamming
It is seen as a very common practice to acquire large number of backlinks for the website due to a delusion that more backlinks are always better and for which many SEOs try to get links with any hook n crook, they may resort to link farms, forums or newgroups spam etc., which can lead to getting their website banned. You need to have quality backlinks for your website only through ethical techniques.

    9. Lack of Consistency and SEO Maintenance
SEO never been a one time process. People who believe that once they optimize a site, it is done forever are living in a wrong belief. If you want to permanently optimize your website, you have to keep on analysing your competition and changes in the ranking algorithms of search engines and update your website pages.

    10. Lack of Keywords in the Page Content
If the content on the page does not have sufficient keywords then you must modify your content according to the requirement and place the useful and relevant keywords at the sensible place within the text. Also it is better to make the most useful keywords bold or highlight them.
